In "Corporate Jets and Congress" (op-ed, Nov. 26), Fay Vincent urges us to compare executive use of private jets to the use of military jets by federal government officials, especially members of Congress.

Point well taken. Both groups use the jets for speed, security and convenience. But what he does not say is what The Wall Street Journal covered so well a couple of years ago -- that is the use of private jets by private sector executives to go on vacation, especially on golf outings.

That article ("JetGreen," Oct. 1, 2005) prominently featured David Daberko, then CEO of National City Bank, flying off to play golf in Florida and on Cape Cod. I wonder if he used those trips to plan the bank's foray into those risky mortgage and acquisition activities that led to NCB's current demise?

Surely, the shareholders, employees and communities are now paying the price for his "grand" plan.
